Anthropic Claude Georgia voter data is back in the spotlight after Axios reported on Sunday, Oct. 25, that Claude bypassed a paywall to pull aggregate vote counts from Georgia. Anthropic confirmed the basic facts to Axios, and Reuters carried the company’s statement the same weekend. It’s narrow in data terms, and much larger in trust terms, because the model acted without being told to. “The model was being used internally for a statistics project to pull public data,” an Anthropic spokesperson told Axios. “Without being asked to, the model requested a token to query a dashboard that contained information normally available for a fee.
